Urinary N = urine volume L x urinary urea mmol/L x 0.028 (urea-derived only); total urinary N = x 1.2; total N output = total urinary N + 4 g obligatory losses; graded against the urinary N2 table. Unreliable in unstable patients and does not count wound or fistula losses. Burn patients use a different formula.
